Case Study: When Strategic Brand Planning Works

Ken Chu Videography

Introduction

In today’s digital era, where technology and social media dominate how people connect and consume information, videography has become an essential and highly specialised tool for enhancing marketing efforts and increasing brand visibility.

Through compelling visual storytelling, businesses can effectively capture attention, engage audiences, and communicate their message in ways that static content often cannot.

Ken Chu Videography provides a high-quality videography service, taking great pride in helping clients with storytelling and creating a safe and approachable environment so they are portrayed at their best on camera.

Beyond technical skill it takes a unique talent to put people at ease in front of the camera—capturing them authentically and ensuring they are portrayed at their very best.

The company launched back in 2020 with 20 years’ experience in the sector, which included big brand names like Samsung and Google.

The Challenges

When Ken and I started working together, Ken Chu Videography, based in South London, had been in business for a couple of years.
  • Although his experience was extensive and his service was excellent, generating quality enquiries and finding effective ways to make sales remained one of his key challenges.
  • Pressed for time and constantly juggling client work, he struggled to shift his focus to sales activities. Most importantly, his lack of foundational ‘sales ’knowledge and proper sales planning proved to be the greatest inefficiency in his process
  • Secondly, his website was not SEO-friendly and failed to showcase his services to their full potential

Solutions

Our strategy focused on clearly defining his target audience and niche areas of expertise to build trust and visibility, followed by high-quality website optimisation to extend his reach even further.

I worked closely with Ken for over two years, implementing a 10-point process plan outlined in my book, “Sales Before Marketing’’ to help him make more sales and revamp his website.
  • Visibility: We began by strengthening his sales foundations, developing a clear sales plan, and increasing targeted networking efforts to achieve greater and more focused visibility
  • Pitch: As we implemented the sales strategy, we refined his elevator pitch and provided additional coaching to improve his delivery and confidence in communicating his value
  • SEO: In parallel with the strategic planning, we enhanced his website by creating targeted content and implementing an SEO strategy to significantly expand his online reach.
  • Niche: Through collaborative brainstorming, we identified a clearly defined target market aligned with his values, experience and core strengths.

❝ ‭Working with Emma was a huge turning point for me. I had always focused on the creative side of my work, but she helped me understand the importance of aspects I may have been avoiding.

Her guidance gave me focus, built my confidence when talking about what I do, and helped me attract the kind of clients
that I want to work with.❞‬

This targeted approach, along with the 10-point process, was incorporated into our monthly work. Ken was able to establish his target audience, define his niche, and refine his service offering, improving sales across the board.

Ken Chu Videography is now going from strength to strength and firmly establishing itself as a specialist in the charity sector, social enterprises and public organisations like the NHS. And I’m proud to say he is doing incredibly well at growing awareness of his specialism in this sector.

My broad experience across sales, marketing, digital, SEO, content planning and writing is a powerful combination — and an unusual one at that! This enables me and my company, Brand Planning, to take a unique approach with my clients.

The results of which have now been introduced as the 10-point process in my book, and will be useful to small businesses, giving them a great starting point for sales planning.
